Rock N Roll has never been so quiet

Sssshh! Spencer!!

Well, talk about a library day. The G-Unit met up at 12pm midday yesterday, and, got their asses to the central library. it used to be in the Town centre, but it's now moved, and, is now the place with big books around it! Now, Spencer has never been the quietest of people, but on this day of G13 study he decided to go mental, and throw a coughing fit! Several gregs pasties, and a pepsi later, and, he was right as rain!

The guys were hard at work with the management, putting in over 4hours of solid library time...and I dont mean watching female students! :P Despite Mike having only had 1hour sleep, and, vinnie having being literally 'up all night' a productive day was had :)

One market brew cuppa later, and the guys were well on their way to singstar at the Girl13 HQ! 'Woooohoooooo'...no thats not me, its spencer singing Song 2 by Blur. Well ,he has to learn from someone doesn't he?

Vinnie and Mike had a brief visit from Nikki, ex G13 singer, which was nice.... It was good to catch up, and great to hear from her. The G13 door is always open, and she knows she does'nt need to be a stranger, and, can drop by anytime. Good luck in Bristol Nikki, we're glad things are working out for you x :)

Amusing Story Time

Today, Mike, our Manager, went around the shops to stock up on Tooth Fashion products, along with other things like pringles :) Yes, he bought a new toothbrush and cheese n onion flavour crisps :P
Mike said:-

" I went round the shops to get some stuff, came back, and, could see this dude outside my house. It looked like he was talking to himself. As i got closer it was none other than Spence, dancing away talking to himself drumming. I let him in, made him a drink and started talking and then he was telling me bout his drum tuition, it was all good. I did some washing up etc. thinking 'its so great Spencer just wants to hang out'. Spencer turned to me n said 'there is a meeting at 3 today isnt there?'. I cracked up and told him its at 6-9pm. Still, was nice to see him :P"

Spencer, as you can see has bags of enthusiasm, and believe in constant progression, so next week starting Monday, a whole section each day will be devoted to the 'GINGER ONE' :)

All is good at the G13 house, and the guys are preparing for tonight's acoustic jam.
Andy is tossing Burgers whilst singing, Vinnie has placed himself in a meditative coma in his room, and Dan is playing 'Air Bass' whilst searching for food to prepare!

One quick trip into town and hey presto! Spencer comes out NOT smiling :) Believe me, thats a good thing! The guys have been busy shopping and have kitted themselves out with the latest groovy Apparel! Or, in other words, they're looking pretty damned HOT! However, the G13 crew did have to drag themselves away from over-friendly staff at the Ann Summers shop.....I wonder why......;)

But ahhh, where are the pictures of Spencer, I hear you cry. Well, here at G13 HQ, we believe some 'special' moments are best left, for now. Would you want us to spoil the suprise at our next gig, and unleash Spencers sexiness all over the internet?! Besides, if that was the case,not only would computer servers crash worldwide, but, you would'nt know how Spence has mastered the Art of non-smiling, by thinking of Bizarre events......well.....Honestly, his house WAS flooded, YES it came from the bathroom section, and, NO the reports are purely coincidental of Dan being anywhere nearby at the time! You also wouldn't have heard Spencer saying 'I thought it was weird putting Gel on DRY HAIR :(' after his makeover that day.

Tommorrow, the G13 guys are heading into town, with their Manager, and No.1 Fan, to get some cash together for the Rock n Roll cause. Well, at least thats the plan. Lets just hope we find the right section at the Library and don't end up in McDonalds........on second thoughts.....'make mine a king size'!

It was great to see some familiar faces, and , also meet some new friends! Here at the G13 HQ we have crowned the Dog&Muff as our official base of operations. That bit means, we're just gonna play there as much as possible ok :P

Ok time for the Girl13 F.A.Q.

This week is a Dan special....(thats his girlfriend over there on the right)..
He has been getting a lot of attention of late. Why, only lastnight, at the Dog, he was asked by TOAST, and one other person, to join THEIR bands!!! Whilst giving a small, yet brief press conference to his Manager, regarding his sex appeal, Dan said:-

'its not my fault im amazing and sexy!'... followed by... 'everyone wants me, tis insane'.
He then proceeded to 'run around room waving arms', although no-one was there to verify this. However, its highly likely!

Dan has also been working on his 'scream' style vocals, no doubt taking his influences from Coldplay songs on 'Singstar'. His screamo vocals made their debut performance during the latter part of Acid Angel, and seemed to go down well, just like the pint afterwards, needed for throat-soothing 'medicinal' purposes ;)

Its been a fairly tough week for Dan.

On thursday, Dan went around Spencers house for a Drum n Bass G13 jam. Things worked out ok, until he started to drive back. His car decided it was time to run out of petrol, and as luck would have it, no strongmen were around to push Dans Volvo Estate (with side inpact bars) to a garage. Spencer said, 'He looked like he was having trouble, but I thought he 'd just forgotten to change gear again'. One hour, and a lucky jimmy-can later, Danzai Dan was on his way home. However, he had started to hallucinate from the fumes, and was starting to talk a lot slower than normal!


Today, the crew took over a mansion for the day, getting some long awaited publicity and promo photos taken for the band. The photo shoot went well, and the guys paused to have a quick work out and bonding session in the gym (see photo).

A close friend and fan of the band came along to the shoot, to model the upcoming G13 merchandise and, after the workout, things got more than a lil steamy!! The HOT-TUB was indeed a very HOT tub by the end of the day, and the session had to be called to a halt, despite the protests of our 'female fan'.

Return of The Mac!

Yes, that is Spencer on the right, giving his 'come 'to bed' look after a re-vamped image from the G13 crew!
Girl13 arrived at Toms Bar Treforest prepared for everything. They were met by a sound guy who knew more about Michael Jacksons Chimp than soundchecking :@
Anyway, the guys were more than prepared for hard work, and to their luck, Elvis met them onstage, and gyrated to a host of songs! Also did some singing too ;)
This was also a special night as our faithful roadie Heavy T (pictured left - even thought he went on a long leave of absence Trout fishing in Scotland) made a welcome return :) As his name suggests, he lifted, well err, HEAVY things! After a dynamic 35minute set, and positive feedback from our fans, the lads departed and made for G13 HQ, where they kicked back, watched some video footage of the gig, and chugged down a few cold ones ;)
Needless to say, the manager was so enthused by our performance, he went and booked an immediate follow up gig for the next night FRIDAY 20th Oct. (TODAY) at the Dog&Muff, Rhonnda! Look out petrol stations and chip shops of the valleys here we come....hopefully with Spencer too this time ;)

WoW!!

With dan having a mad 6hour car journey in his meatwagon......Spencer becoming stranded and having no choice but to get drunk in a pub for 3hours...and the G13 crew being lent a sat nav. and fan named Rosie *who really didnt know the way to blackwood*, it was an all out chaos gig at the Dog n Muff in the rhondda. How our Bassist could stand let alone play bass, after driving for nearly 5hours straight is beyond me, but maybe Dan was cheered by the cheap alcohol on offer at the Bar. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so check out the guys in mid-rock! :P

Needless to say, yes half of Girl13 got nekked yet again,and also got many adoring looks on stage, and offers of phone numbers.....and that was just from the organiser! :P

We've uploaded some pics of the Badge-wearing Girl13 crew that turned up lastnight, and, hopefully we have made some new friends :)

With a break this weekend, the guys are back at it Monday evening for a live jam in Cathays, to re-work some songs from the current set, and adding a new one for Thursdays gig.

Our next gig is this Thursday 19th October at Toms Bar, Treforest so be sure to turn up and have a fun time ;)

Rhondda Workout!

Firstly , A huge thankyou to everyone who turned up for our gig at Buffalo Bar. It was an awesome night, with the G13 crew rockin' out. Seeing as it was the lads first 'Cardiff gig, their was understandably tension in the air. However, once our Drummer donned his Girl13 'Spencer Special' T-shirt, all was well. With flyers at the ready, the guys went out to spread the word, along with yet more badges! The badge designs are now in 2 versions, 1st is pictured here on the right, and second is a G13 Girlie! We are working on adding links so these can be bought online, however for now, we're just giving them away, to the deserving! Are we chariable or what? :P
Things have yet again, been mega busy at G13 HQ in Cardiff,.Upon reflection,and a few bourbon biscuits (Dan), the guys hare aware of things that they can work on, to improve for the next show, if they have time between gigs! Promoters have been hunted down and contacted relentlessly, resulting in a nice last minute gig today, in the Rhondda Valleys (Dog n Muff).Our my space site has been re-vamped giving it a different feel, and the band members pics have been place on the first page, with hyperlinks to the guys individual myspace accounts. 'Where is Spencers myspace' I hear you cry. Alas. poor Spencer does not yet have the thrill of a myspace account, but soon......;) We are also working on updating our main site, www.girl13.co.uk, on a much more regular basis. :) more guestbook comments please....errr no Richie not you!
A band biog. giving people a little more idea of the History of Girl13, is set to be added this week, as well as some video footage from a jam session 2 weeks ago, when the guys rehearsed in a studio with really cool sound! That wasn't the case last Wednesday though, as the g-uNIT performed and rehearsed at Sizzling Sauna Studios AKA 'Offshore'. It turned into a nearly nekked jam session! Be warned,some of the pics are already circulating on myspace, mainly from Mike uploading them :/
Spencer has been a busy lad, focusing on his mental state, drumming technique, and general Zen-ness! The sound is very tight, and now we're in the process of re-working some of the exisiting set, and adding those 'special' ingredients, that make a song memorable.....no, not lapdancers and a bottle of Ajax! Girl13 now are unofficial sponsors of Singstar, mainly every Wednesday night at Dan's house ;)*drinking optional*

Girl 13 - not just a band but a state of mind...

Sorry for the late post this time guys. Miss Management has been struck down with the dreaded lurgy *cough*.

Firstly, we've had a lot of enquiries with regards to the origins of the band name, but still only insiders know the true story behind the name Girl 13....

So....busy week as always and Mike has been making those cogs turn.
To begin with the band went busking in town for the badge fund. Despite being a weak money magnet they learnt a lot from the experience. They know what works and what doesn't and next time they hit the street they'll be more prepared. If anything it was a unique bonding session and they have caught the busking bug. Singstar is becoming a weekly group session for practice now and even Manager Mike is joining in! Vinnie made a record breaking score, beating everyone elses attempts. It's clear that he takes the game to bed with him. ;) It was a mutual agreement that everyone has a good voice that can hold pitch well.

There's a live jam tomorrow that should hopefully lead them to a decision about the new singer. Andy and Jack have been put on a two week trial after a quite remarkable score of 128/150 was attained by both. However, a gig has emerged out of the ether for this Friday at Blaengarw Workmens Hall in Bridgend so the trials will have to be cut short for practicality purposes. We also have a gig on Monday at the Buffalo Bar in Cardiff centre. Make sure you come along and bring your friends too. Mention Girl 13 on the door and get a free badge!
So far our other confirmed gig is at the Buffalo Bar on the 1st of November which we are humbly headlining and will most probably be an acoustic night.

Just to keep you up to speed, Parlophone have acknowledged the receipt of Punk Rock Girl.

Girl13.co.uk has been triumphantly revamped by M. There's a new layout, sections, pictures and a different G13 song on every page. Check it out!

A group decision has been made re: the badges. Ideas were tweaked, pictures and lettering were rearranged and should result in a few awesome looking pieces of promotion.
New banners have been designed from the digital shots taken at Street Level studios. Mean and broody seemed to have been telepathically decided but clearly Spencer doesn't have that super power. He does, however, hold the power of super 'fro. During a recent trip to Ikea for Dan to acquire a new mattress, Vin & Spence had to be under it on the back seat due to lack of room. We all know that the reason they had to be so low was not because of the mattress depth - oh no - but because of the depth of Spencers 'fro and the many items of necessity that he stores in it (including emergency supplies of Dr. Pepper).

This week we have decided to hold a competition. If we like your answer you could win a date with the whole band who will treat you to a slap up meal of super noodles and Pepsi Cino.

Looking Ahead Current mood: energetic
Things are looking up for Girl13 and we are making a lot happen. there is generally a happier, bouncier vibe about the band, and, as things go, its literally GO, GO, GO. all the time!! A good live jam was had last week, with the lads literally 'thrashing' out the tunes and getting rid of some tension, Rock n Roll style!Songs are currently being re-worked to make the sound even tighter, and, a Gig at Cardiffs 'Buffalo Bar', has just been confirmed for Wednesday 1st November 2006, 9pm. This is sure to give Dan a chance to show off his glowing Amps undercarriage! No, it isnt slang for his 'undercarriage'. His amp preally does glow!This coming Tuesday sees the G13 crew head off to Central Cardiff for some Impromptu Busking. If you are lost, look for a Ginger Afro, and let that, and, our sounds, point you in the right direction!Coffee, and silver coinage much appreciated. Failing that, gregs pasties and bronze coins will do!

Well, with a new Drummer sorted and our new singer on their way, the sound has changed and I think people will be impressed. So, the recording went well!
We had a drum booth and a vocal capsule which both got rather warm! Poor Richie got jammed in his drum booth and nearly suffocated! Was probably in there for 20 minutes. We have it all on camera! He was having a bad week, say no more.
Vocal lessons have been paying off. All those pearls of wisdom and tricks of the trade really helped. You want in on the secrets? ...
...tough, they're mine!

New pics as promised! Current mood: productive
We had a photo shoot this evening which went swimmingly! You can now see my new hair and our new guitarist Natalie in our pics, so go have a peek! Part of the reason for the shoot is so that we can get some photos sent to our good friend Silvander to enable her to start work on our anime characters, which will be used in the sleeve of our album cover. Should be interesting. I wonder what we'll look like anime-ed up?!
Recording is coming upon us fast so lots of work is being done in the house of Girl13 on a daily basis. We now have the date set for 17th to start work on our six new tracks in the studio. All systems go!

New look, Wonderful weekend, Birthday! Current mood: content
A new look for Girl13 as I have changed my hair. Photos will be up soonish Im sure.
I had a wonderful weekend in Cheltenham (the nam), walking up big muddy hills and then cycling round the Forrest of Dean. Followed by dinner and drinks, meeting up with Girl with A GuN and Si to go to a rock club for dancing and tired fun!
Mike and Vinnie also had a good weekend back in the diff. They went to a house party and didnt get home til 6am. So we trully are living the rock and roll lifestyle!
Very excited about this weekend as it's my birthday on Friday and Im going to Camden shopping ^_^

Busy Busy BusyG13 have been working on vocals, literally 'ripping' songs apart and putting them back together, and, have also had a live jam with another Drummer (thanks for the Hot-X buns), so its all good.Last night we rehearsed and worked on Rhythmn and vocal harmonies. Nikki, has them all nailed, and sounding more awesome than ever!'How does Girl13 fit all this in', I hear you cry! Well, to be honest, we don`t quite know ourselves! :P The momentum is working for us at the moment, and, we`d be fools not to go with it.Today, a trip to the studio was in order, to iron out the arrangements for this coming weekend. On Sunday, finishing vocal touches will be put to Alex, followed by a final mixdown of that Track later that day.So, another fun-filled weekend is in order. Lets hope when we arrive at the Studio by the mountain, its not as cold outside! :PLastly, we`d like to thank everyone who has visited, and, who continues to visit our humble site :) We had a girl13 fan site set up by a loyal fan. Yet another busy week in the house of Girl 13! Getting the finishing preparations done for the recording this weekend. Also, the ongoing search for the drummer of our dreams continues! Apply here.Last week was a busy one aswell. Practiced with Natalie (our new guitarist) and recorded it all on her porter studio for future reference. We're now practicing at least 3 times a week. Mondays is voacl night, Wednesdays are general work, and Thursdays are full on jamming sessions drummer auditions!Saturday evening was spent celebrating Mikes birthday. We went into town with a bunch of friends. I think everyone in the bar got sent our Dance ringtone via bluetooth. There was playing with ice and candle wax, talk of glass ceilings and non smoking pubs (go non smoking pubs!) Everyone did tequilas apart from me, as I don't drink. No tequila suicides tho. Had a very interesting meeting today with some business guys - will hafta keep you guy posted on that one....Right now we`re gearing up for our Drummer auditions taking place this thursday in Cardiff.Currently have 4 drummers lined up to take part. One of which - and I quote - says `I can make a cup of tea whilst drumming the tracks on your Demo`...I say `cool` anyone who can do that, immediately has my order, especially if he can rub some funk on it.....or maybe a sugar :PIts quite funny whilst writing this I was speaking to Hywel from the Deafs - who i`m sure has secretly hacked into my pc. He was replying to what I was typing on this Blog!Dude you are scaring me! When you`ve gone abroad i`m gonna run a trace on that modem of yours :pWill keep you all posted on our progress with the new drummer

Hope 2006 has been good to you so far - just sorted some time in the studio to record around 6 new songs!!! and finally finish off the 3 you've been waiting to hear in full ;o)

So apart from the odd gig to keep us sane we're gonna be locked away in the studio for the next 2 months - we'll keep you updated on any future gigs / developments and there could be a surprise for y'all very soon!!!

Away and Back From Home Current mood: creative Category: Music
The `mini-tour` seemed to go down well in North Wales, plus it was good to get away.
*Most Memorable Moment*
When an arguement broke out - about our music - between some Rockers and a bunch of `chav` girls.......the rockers Won! (thanks guys).
We came back to a great reception at The Malsters, where the Defo`s joined us, and, we had an interesting night! Went for an acoustic feel which really worked.
Our Search for a Drummer continues...
Our current setlist is having a slight re-vamp. We`re adding a more melodies to make our stuff even more exciting. Ironically, there is a better sense of togetherness in the band now. Looking to do some recording in the NewYear, more gig dates to follow :)
